A community organization dedicated to providing a central place to review Park Ridge Traffic and Safety issues with its citizens and their elected Representatives and City's management. To practice and promote the responsible use of our roads, traffic systems and resources. To educate and enlist citizens to protect and restore the quality of our auto and pedestrian traffic as one of our cherished human environments in Park Ridge. CORRECTS - Citizens Organized for Reasonable Routes Enhancing Community Traffic & Safety believes that citizen's pedestrian safety, auto safety and reasonable routes comes first in city traffic. That before adding a traffic signal or traffic signals which generates slow traffic, bumper-to-bumper traffic, traffic gridlock, traffic complaints, traffic crashes, traffic signs, traffic bottleneck, automobile traffic, traffic congestion, rush hour traffic, bumper to bumper traffic, traffic congestion, rush hour traffic and automobile traffic, that a Park Ridge Alderman and/or Park Ridge Aldermen, should require a traffic study to avoid this auto traffic scenario in Park Ridge, Illinois. Only reasonable auto traffic should be permitted to provide reasonable routes with traffic safety and avoid traffic accidents, traffic injuries, pedestrian injuries, auto accidents, traffic problems, which will also decrease pedestrian traffic in Park Ridge and thus negatively affect retail sales and our quality of life. We encourage Park Ridge citizens to register and for all voters to vote only for a Park Ridge Alderman / Park Ridge Aldermen Park Ridge Mayor that promises to ensure Reasonable Routes and City Traffic Safety. Today’s Park Ridge City Policy of waiting for citizens to first be injured, maimed and dead, while creating a serious crisis of traffic congestion, in traffic routes and hurting existing retail businesses, is unacceptable. Issued - October 24, 2005 Rate Your Representatives PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION Subject: Exhibit Supporting the Traffic Redesign by the City for Greenwood and CORRECTS belief that the traffic impact will be small. Re: 3. Case Numbers: MA-05-01: Map Amendment from the R-2 Two Family Residential District to the R-4 Multiple Family Residential District PUD-05-01: Preliminary Planned Residential Development at 464-516 North Northwest Highway. CORRECTS has been keenly watching and investigating the intersections of Greenwood at Northwest Highway, Busse and Touhy. These intersections are at capacity as currently designed and utilized, every time a train closes the gate on Greenwood. Because the area is at saturation, any new traffic will bring more pain. However, given an excellent traffic design put forth by the Heinz Group and the expected low utilization as a condominium, we believe the Heinz Group have done an excellent job and created a viable traffic solution. Therefore, CORRECTS recommends that Planning Zoning not disapprove this project based on auto and pedestrian traffic issues. The City of Park Ridge has been actively involved with the Traffic Consultants of Gewalt Hamilton, City Public Works staff and IDOT and have come up with an elegant solution to the traffic gridlock which currently exists. Something, simply must be done for the benefit of our citizens and provided a reasonable expected service levels from it City Officials. What the City and IDOT are proposing is that the Greenwood traffic lights from Northwest Highway, to Busse Highway to Touhy be computerized with intelligence and sensors to move traffic along and interconnected, rather than waste time holding up auto traffic as old fashioned dumb traffic signals do. This use of mixing technology and adding a few permanent right turn lanes, should bring back traffic to an acceptable and appropriate level needed now and into the future. There is great support amongst staff and certain elected officials, such as the mayor to provide the citizens living in that area, what they deserve by executing this new traffic plan, just as they would deserve adequate water pressure by the city, should it need to be adjusted later. This project is funded largely from $1,000,000 infrastructure U.S. grant to city of Park Ridge and therefore should be strongly encouraged to be approved. I ask that Planning and Zoning, include a non-binding recommendation to the City Council Aldermen, that the general traffic for this area does need to be improved and formally encourage it. For if the City Council does not approve this project, Park Ridge’s future and well being will be severely injured, along with all the residents in that area and commuters. permanent right turn lanes: By adding a few permanent right turn lanes, it will allow much of traffic which is gridlock to extend and escape to the destination street they wish, thus reducing the amount of cycle time when each signal goes green. This provides a large bang for the buck improvement on Park Ridge bottlenecks. Drawing of turns is NOT to scale. Example Right Turn Shown are:
